Demanding Clothes

Cultural Values in Fashion Production

London College of Fashion, UAL

MA Fashion Futures

2020/2021

'Demanding Clothes' explores the relationship between manufacturing methods in the fashion industry and Western European imperialistic heritage. First and foremost, the exploration of whiteness in fashion production is central to this project. Imperialism and colonialism were explored, as well as the relation between capitalism, exploitation and manufacturing methods. The fashion industry, as the ultimate expression of capitalism, is a central concept in this dissertation. Ethnographic and epistemological methodologies were used to develop an interview format. Interviews with production managers and designers were held to investigate production processes and values held regarding these production processes.

To visualise the research, a videogame was created. Within the game, players can participate in the fashion industry and make vital decisions for their own, and others well-being.
